Starting on Wednesday, email started backing up on the outbound of the secure.stormer.info server. Our outbound relay mailchannels was not reachable to route mail. This was the first symptom. That was fixed by going with another provider. The issues continued going into Thursday with intermittent issues with clients and visitors randomly not able to view their websites or download email. Upon further escalation of the tickets submitted to the data center it was found a network layer attack was taking place above the server level on a port of the DDos protected IP range. That issue was discovered and the resolved as of around 9pm CST on Thursday evening. Today, all services are operational and functioning normally.
From the data center tickets:
This was due to a network issue with the DDOS protected IP range which has been resolved.
According to the network team, a network level attack caused the problem and now the problem has been rectified.
This was a really complex routing issue impacting one of our upstream carriers, and one of the 4x interfaces we have with them in Dallas. They are still working on determining the root cause. However, the issue should not reoccur now that we are routing around the impacted port.
All this was happening at the 30k foot elevation level but it sure impacted us all at ground level. There is nothing more crazy and confusing as explaining dns and resolution issues that are intermittent.
Thanks for your patience while the data center discovered the problem and resolved it. If you continue to have issues please submit a ticket here: https://ticket.stormer.com
